Yellowknife Mixed Broomball League House Rules
CBF RULES APPLY with the exception of the House Rule listed below.
Zero Tolerance for Fighting!
1st offense - 3 game automatic suspension
2nd offense – 5 game suspension and a review of situation by disciplinary committee which could lead to expulsion for the season
Zero Tolerance for abusing the officials both on and off ice!
Should a player consistently abuse the officials, that player will face game suspensions and depending on the severity expulsion for the season. Abuse include swearing at or in the direction of an official on or off the ice.
Mixed League is NON-BODY CHECKING as per CBF Rule Article 73. Incidental contact is permitted and is left to the discretion of the Officials but Incidental contact must not be of a dangerous or aggressive manner. Both offensive and defensive players must be in control of their own bodies. Any player making illegal contact even while in possession of the ball can be penalized.
All teams must be in good standing with the league. All fees are to be paid and registration forms submitted by the due dates. Failure to remit registration when due will result in team being removed from the league schedule and not permitted to play in the league until fees are paid in full. Players registered on the delinquent team will NOT be permitted to play on other teams for the remainder of season.
First half of registration fees are due November along with the team registration form. The final team registration form, the player insurance waivers, the NWT Affiliation fees and the remaining registration fees are due by January
TEAMS are responsible to coordinate with timekeeper to ensure their game sheets have all players and numbers recorded prior to start of game. This will ensure the correct player stats and number of games is recorded correctly for playoff eligibility.
No Contact with Goaltenders - Any incidental contact with the goalies while in the action of “normal goaltending” will result in a minor/major penalty. Further penalties may be assessed if it was deemed by the official that the contact with either international or dangerous. An interpretation of “normal goaltending” is defined as: “If the goalie is out playing the ball, making passes, etc then that is outside of the “normal” definition.”
Automatic stoppage in play when ANY PLAYER or Official is hit in the head with the ball to ensure the person has not or does not suffer from a concussion.
Picking Up Players Outside NWT Player Registration Roster
Team Rosters are defined by the NWT Player Registration/Insurance forms that are submitted to NWT Broomball. Players cannot be registered on or receive statistics from more than one Mixed League team in a single season.
REGULAR SEASON GAMES
Regular season games will be two 15 minute stopped time periods. If a team is up by three (3) goals the game will switch from stopped time to straight running time. No mercy rule.
No Overtime in mixed league regular season games.
Mixed Teams consist of 6 players on the ice at all times, a minimum of three (3) must be women unless a penalty occurs.
A team will be allowed to pick up players from outside their roster if:
Exceptions: Goalies are exempt from the above and can be shared during the regular season only as there are a limited amount of goaltenders in the league.
PLAYOFF GAMES
Games will be two 15 minute stopped time periods. If tied at the end of regulation time then a five-minute sudden death period will be played. If still tied then a five-player shootout will take place. Should there still be a tie then a sudden death shootout will take place with the same five shooters.
Picking Up Players during Play-Offs:
Teams are NOT allowed to pick up players from outside their own roster during play offs.
Goalies may be replaced during play offs if they are injured. Written request to replace the injured goalie must be sent to the League Representative (Valerie Pond) a minimum of 24hrs before playing for approval. Teams must provide the name of the replacement goalie, the replacement goalie must not be registered on any other mixed league roster and they must have paid the NWT insurance with NWT Broomball before playing.
